3 KWBU PROGRAM GUIDE
Dear Members,
This is a dicult and sad message.
We’ve been preparing our budgets for KWBU-FM and TV over the
last two months, and there’s a gap between our projected revenue
and expenses for the next scal year. We’ve been talking with
our partner, Baylor University, and for the coming year Baylor has
pledged the same nancial support as they provided this year. But
that is their limit.
For the last decade, Baylor has been our strongest supporter,
providing nearly half our income. The rest is provided by the
Corporation for Public Broadcasting and by you, the community
of Waco. But community support has never been strong, and has
declined signicantly in the past two years. It amounts to less than a fth of our overall budget.
The shortfall we project for next year is signicant – nearly $400,000.
We’ve made the very dicult decision to end the Television service of KWBU at the end of May.
KWBU-FM will continue, but we simply don’t have enough to maintain both services. We will
also be unable to continue producing a monthly Program Guide. This will be the nal edition.
This is a loss for Waco, and most of all for you, our members. Thank you so much for your support
over the years. With your help, we will continue provide a healthy public broadcasting service to
Waco through KWBU-FM.
